Term 2 Week 1 'Star of the Week' and Other News

This week's Star of the Week is Annabel.
Annabel works hard and always tries her best to produce quality work. She knows how to listen and follow instructions.
Annabel, you are a star. It's great to have you in Room 13.

This week Kate and Luke received Principal's Awards for their holiday recounts. Congratulations, Kate and Luke.

At the start of the holidays I went to Kaikoura. When we stopped at the river my brother found a huge spider. My little sister, who is nearly three, came over and poked the spider with a big, fat stick and killed it. After we left the river we started going to Kaikoura again. When we were in the Kiakoura area we saw lots of seals and lots of baby seals getting washed off the rocks. One baby seal got washed into the ocean but he got back on. After that we went through two tunnels. They were very dark. When we got to Kaikoura we pitched our tent and blew up our beds. The lady at the counter said that we were right next to a pool so we had a swim in the pool. After that we went to the supermarket and got some hash browns and some meat patties. They were yum! When my Dad was cooking the hash browns and meat patties my Mum took us to the playground with a bouncy pillow. After my Dad finished cooking we came back from the playground and ate the hash browns and meat patties. When we finished tea we went into the games' room and we played a game of pool. I won against my brother. My Dad helped me to aim the white ball into the hole. By Kate

On the first day of the holidays I went to Greymouth. At Greymouth there was a hunting and fishing competition. I won something. We went magpie shooting. The next thing we did was we drove back to Christchurch. When we were at Christchurch we went on a V8 trike.
We went to a wedding.
My brother, George, had a birthday. At George's birthday he had two cakes: a Yoda cake and a cake that said Starwars. I gave my brother a MGP and heaps of Ninja lego. We had a pinata that was the Death Star. Christian was at George's party. By Luke

Today Evelyn turned 7. We sang Happy Birthday to her. We hope you enjoy being 7, Evelyn.

Tonight was the school disco. Seventeen Room 13 children attended and had a fantastic time. What super dancers we have in our room. A couple of our mums even joined in one of the dances. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately for them) the photo I took is too blurry to see properly.

Term 1 Week 10 'Star of the Week' and Other News

This week's Star of the Week is Harrison.
Harrison has worked hard this term and has Stepped Up for Success. He tries hard in all his work, he listens to and follows instructions, and he is a positive role model.
Thank you, Harrison, it's great to have you in Room 13.

Recently we have had several 'celebrations' in Room 13.
Congratulations to Paige, Bess, and Danny who all received Principal's Awards for their recounts about our Run, Jump, Throw Display Day.
Here's their stories:

Yesterday it was Run, Jump, Throw Display day. My team was Number 10. William F was the leader, George was the belly button, and I was the tail end Charlie.
We were at Mrs Culling. We did relay races. Next stop Mrs Kearns who had the leapfrog. Then from Mrs Kearns to Mrs Simpson. We did shuttling. Next stop Mrs Phillips. We threw discus. Then from Mrs Phillips to Mrs Kundycki-Carrell and Mrs Spiers. At the high jump we had to scissor kick. Mrs Kundycki-Carrel said, “Bess, that’s the way to do it!”
The next thing I heard was the whistle blow and away went the team.
Now it was the interesting bit. It was the Year 3 long dash. I felt nervous because this year I had to take part.
“Can the Year 3 girls come.” said Mrs Phillips. I lined up with the other girls. The blocks crashed and we were off. I tried my hardest. The next thing I knew I had crossed the finish line. I felt proud of myself. I came in 6th place. It was very enjoyable.

The other day I did Run, Jump, Throw Display. I liked the hurdles the best. The one I didn’t like the best was leapfrog. The one I liked in the middle was throwing.
The first thing we did was the shuttles. The second thing we did was the discus and quoits. The third thing we did was hurdles. The hurdles was my favourite thing. The last thing was the high jump. I think the worst thing was the leapfrog.
Then we went into the filed. When we were on the field it was the long dash. Max came first and Harrison came second and William F came sixth.
By Danny

Yesterday was the Run, Jump, Throw Display day. I first went to the hurdles with my team. I was in Team 10. We had to run fast. My Dad was yelling out, “Go, Paige, Go. Run as fast as you can.” First we had to tag the person who was waiting in front of the line. Then Mrs Culling gave us the baton to pass to the person in front. It was awesome. Then we went to Mrs Kearns to leapfrog. It was fun as well. We had to bend down and the person behind us gently put their hands on our backs. We did it to them. My Dad again said, “Go, Paige, go!” Third we went to the shuttle runs. We had to take the balls and put them in the bucket and then put them back going zigzag around the cones with the baton in one hand and the ball in the other hand. Fourth we went to Mrs Phillips and throwing. We had to throw discus and quoits. The next station we went to was the high jump with Mrs Kundycki-Carrell and Mrs Spiers. I was in the yellow team so I had to follow the yellow cones. The high jump was hard when we had to go around the right coloured cones and we had to scissors kick over the bar. Then we had the big dash. All the Year 3s had to race. Then our parents came for a shared lunch. I sat with my Dad, Maia’s Dad, Mum, and sister. My Mum couldn’t come because she can’t leave work.
My favourite activity was leapfrog because we had to bend down and the person put their hands on our backs. My second favourite activity was high jump because I got to go around the cone. There was one person who was really, really fast. He was faster than a herd of cows. My third favourite one was the hurdles because we had to hurdle there with the baton and drop it then hurdle back. My fourth favourite one was the shuttle runs because we had to run zigity-zag and zigity-zag back. My favourite, favourite one was the picnic because the mums and dads came for the picnic lunch and a little bit of playtime.
I had to run fast. It was exciting, actually the most exciting thing in my life.
