Week Term 7 'Star of Week' and Other News

This week's Star of the Week is Ethan.
Ka wani ke, Ethan, it's great to have you in Room 13.

Luke received a certificate as he has been a responsible leader this week. Thank you, Luke.

This morning two groups presented plays:

Wil, Trinity, Bess, Annabel, and
Elliott presented 'Counting Crocodiles'.

Ethan, Danny, William F, and William T presented 'Anything is Better'.

Ka pai to both groups - you were fantastic and you made some super props.

On Tuesday we had a visit from Willowbank staff. They talked to us about native birds and their habitats. They also brought a tuatara for us to look at. The tuatara sat very still until a worm was put in its cage. Then it turned its head, flicked out its tongue and scooped the worm up. Here's a photo of Elliott watching the tuatara eating.

Please note that our School Assembly on Monday will be at 2pm in the church.

Term 3 Week 7 Certificate

At Monday's School Assembly William T was awarded a certificate.
Congratulations, William, we are proud of you.

Notes for Term 3 Week 6

I trust the Quiz Night went well - I've not had any results, but I know you would all have had lots of fun and laughter.

I have just checked the Mathletics site and am very excited to see that we are at number 23 on the 'NZ's Top Classes' list. Congratulations and thank you so much to everyone who has been working hard to get us there. This week eight children have scored over 3000 points with our top scorer on a massive 12830! Check out the blog tomorrow to see who the Week 5 top three are.

Fractions

We have been learning about fractions. We know that the denominator is the number on the bottom and it tells us how many pieces or groups a whole set is divided into. The numerator is the number on the top and tells us how many of these pieces we want. We also know that each piece of a fraction must be the same size or have the same number of items in it.
Today we compared fractions. We discovered that 2/4 is the same as a 1/2; 2/6 is the same as 1/3; 2/8 is the same as 1/4.
The best part of learning about fractions was when we had a bag of Fruit Burst lollies and we had to work out the fraction of each colour. When we'd finished working that out we were able to eat our lolly. Thanks, Estelle, for providing the Fruit Bursts.

Thank you for your support for the School Fair. It's not too late to bring a bottle if you still want to. Just place it in the black box at the end of the classroom.

Today we watched a DVD about the kiwi. We learnt a lot things about the kiwi. This is the beginning of our topic on NZ Animals and their Habitats.

*In Religious Education we continue learning about Saints. We have a 'Saints' Tree' on our wall and each day we add more names to it. Please help your child to find out about some saints so they can add to the tree.
*Next week we will begin our topic: New Zealand Animals and their Habitats. If you have any books or posters or other relevant information you can share with us please send it along. Near the end of the unit we will be making a diorama. Please obtain a shoebox for this project.
*As you know the ground is damp and the grass muddy. It is a good idea to bring a change of shoes for play and lunch times. Please also bring a pair of track pants to put on while playing outside.

Have a relaxing weekend.
