Swimming Stories

Today we wrote stories about our swimming lessons at Wharenui Pool. Here are a few:

At 9 in the morning we went swimming at Wharenui. My Mum came and watched me. We did dolphin dives and sardines. We did kicking on our back and big arms. We went on a bus. I forgot what my teacher's name was. We had to go under water for a long time. My Dad is coming one day next week. Ben

After the roll we go to Wharenui Pool to do swimming. We do dolphin dives and wiggle dives. We buddy up with Room 3. We go on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday my Mum and Grandad and Nana came. My favourite part was the dolphin dives. My Room 3 buddy's name is Lauchlan. Christian

At 9 o'clock we hop into the bus to Wharenui Pool. We get into our togs and get into our pool. My instructor is called James. We swim for half an hour. After our swimming lesson we get into our school uniform. We get on the bus and go back to school and have morning tea. Isla

Macy and I sat on the mat and we said, "Ata marie, Alex." Then we got ready to go and line up. We walked to the bus. Then we had to go inside and go to the seats and get our clothes off. I waited to get my bathing cap on. Then we went into the pool. I did a big starfish in front of Mrs Kundycki-Carrell. Ciara

At my school for the last few days Room 3 and my classroom have been going to Wharenui Pool for swimming lessons. I have a buddy like everybody else. I only have six more swimming lessons so I have to make the most of it. This is my second year swimming with my school and it feels good. We have to go on a bus to get there. Normally we do clapping games but this year we just wait quietly. At swimming we have to take off our uniform and we have to put on our swimming gear. After that my teacher, Mrs Kundycki-Carrell, says, "Room 13 people please stand up." She normally tests us to see which swimming group we are in. I am in the second swimming group. Denver

Commenting on a Blog Post

Today we learnt how to make a comment on a blog post. We worked in pairs to choose a posting, read the work, then type a comment. We then had to work through several steps before the comment was published.
I am amazed at how quickly the children picked up the skills needed to successfully publish a comment. Their next task is to teach their parents how to comment.
I have issued a challenge to the class: there will be a prize for the person who makes the most comments by Friday. There are some rules: the comments must be positive and spelling must be checked, and corrected if necessary, by a parent. All comments are moderated by me before being published.
We'll check out the comments each day in class.

Term 2 Week 2 'Star of the Week' and Stories

This week's Star of the Week is Kate.
Kate is a great listener and knows what to do. She always tries her best and completes her work to 'Triple Star' standard.
Kate, it's great to have you in Room 13.

On Monday some children wrote about Friday night's disco. It was a super evening and all the children who attended had a lot of fun. Here's some recounts of the event:

On Friday at five o'clock I went to the Junior Disco. There was a DJ. The music was very, very loud. I had to shout to all my friends. I bought a little light and a bottle of raspberry soft drink. I also bought lots of treats. William T

After school on Friday my Dad and I jumped in the car and drove to the disco. We followed the pink balloons. At the disco we did my two favourite dances, the Macarena and the Chicken Dance. I bought a drink because I was getting hot! It was fantastic. My Dad said I could buy two things. First I chose a drink. My second choice was a flashing star on a string. When I got home I had tea. Alexandra

After school on Friday night I hopped into my car and drove to my Granny's house to get changed for the disco. When I was changed we drove to the disco. There was lots of funny music like the Chicken Dance, the Macarena and moves like Jagger. Mrs Kundycki-Carrell was doing the Macarena. The man didn't know her name and then he asked if anyone knew her name. Harrison said it was Mrs Kundycki-Carrell. It was fantastic. Paige

On Friday I went to the disco. I was looking around in the car all the way to the disco. I was so excited. When we got there I ran into the disco room. My Mum helped me to get there. George

And a story from Macy:
On Saturday Lily and I had to sweep around the whole house because Dad told us to do it. I did not like it and neither did Lily. We got the tools and swept and swept and swept. When we were finished we had to go and sweep around the trampoline. I did not say anything for that moment. At last it was done and we got our biscuit. We were so pleased. But the bad news was it took us three hours. But at last we got a rest.

We have been learning about ANZAC Day. Come into our room to see what we have been doing and to read our ANZAC poems.
We are also learning about the Fruits of the Holy Spirit/Te Wairua Tapu o Te Haemata. We discussed what each fruit looked like and sounded like. Charts of our ideas are on our RE wall.

Notes:
*Student Led Conferences: If you received a letter on Thursday please go online to book a time to come in with your child to see what they have been learning and to discuss their progress with me. The report will be given to you then. Student Led Conferences take place on Wednesday 16 May. If you did not receive a letter you and your child will be having a Student Led Conference in Week 10 of this term.
*Monday 7:30pm - The Parent Council are holding their AGM in the staff room. They would love to see you there.
